How to Create a Gmail App Password
A fast, secure way to connect your FamPay email to FamGateway without giving away your real password.
To securely read payment receipts from FamPay, FamGateway requires access to the Gmail account linked to your FamPay app. However, we never want your real Gmail password.
Instead, Google provides a feature called App Passwords. This is a secure, 16-character code that grants FamGateway limited access. You can revoke it at any time with a single click. Here is how to set it up in 2 minutes.
Open your browser and navigate to myaccount.google.com/security. Make sure you are logged into the exact Gmail account associated with your FamPay.
Scroll down to the "How you sign in to Google" section. If 2-Step Verification is off, click on it and follow the prompts to enable it using your phone number.
Once 2-Step Verification is on, click on the search bar at the very top of the Google Account page. Type in "App Passwords" and click the result that appears.
You will be prompted to enter an App name. Type FamGateway and click Generate.
Google will show a yellow box containing a 16-character password (e.g., abcd efgh ijkl mnop). Copy this exact password (ignoring spaces is fine, but copy it completely).
Paste this into your FamGateway Dashboard under the Gmail App Password field and click Save.
How to Revoke Access
If you ever want to stop using FamGateway, simply return to the App Passwords page in your Google account and click the trash can icon next to "FamGateway". This instantly revokes all access, keeping you in complete control.
